Cock n Ball Torture Interview

Spoke to Tobi of the great CBT, this interview was done in February of this year.

Red Light Grind:
I'd like to start this off by saying thank you for doing this interview! My first question, and I'm sure a lot of people are wondering, where the hell has CBT been?!

Tobi:
I don’t understand. We have always been there…

Red Light Grind:
Could you give us a brief bio of CBT?

Tobi:
Nope. Too long story since we are celebrating 15 years of CBT in mid Feb 2012. Go for Wikipedia.

Red Light Grind:
The last thing you released was a compilation on Obliteration records. Is there ever going to be a new cd?
Are you guys practicing/writing new stuff? What? Haha

Tobi:
Actually there was a tribute to CBT called “Bulldozers United” released in fall 2011. There is loads of new stuff. But we don’t really have much time for rehearsals or recording. We are all working a lot, have families. So I guess being patient is all you can do. There will be a new release for sure. Just not sure when.

Red Light Grind:
Any chance to see you guys live again?

Tobi:
Actually we play live about 3-4 times per year all around Europe. All gigs are announced on our website at least 4 week before the show. http://www.cockandballtorture.org/

Red Light Grind:
How do you feel about the tough censorship laws in Germany?

Tobi:
Actually it is not as strict as in other countries. It depends on the “class” of the band. If you are in a mainstream band with business background it is as strict as in all other countries. If you are playing underground music like grindcore or goregrind it will be  quite easy to do wht you want. If you are 100% professional musician and music is your job, then you should tick to the rules and laws otherwise you might be jobless soon. Music as hobby and fun cannot be restricted so much.

Red Light Grind:
Are you currently signed to any record label?

Tobi:
No. we were, but we resigned. When the time is right and we have enough material ready to be recorded and enough time we will choose in between the different offerings we have and release a new CD. Easy.

Red Light Grind:
What do you think of pornogrind/goregrind bands that are emerging now, you're probably the main influence for a lot of them.

Tobi:
I think GG / PG was some kind of counter movement against all those poser death metal bands with their fancy logos and fancy covers and evil bullshit bandnames. Nowadays they have disappeared mostly. Many GG bands are in the same situation like the DM bands 15 years ago. It is hilarious now. It is nice to see that we influenced some of them to some extent. But hey, times have changed. Bring on something new please! Otherwise you will only copy yourselves.

Red Light Grind:
There was a recent tribute to you guys "Bulldozers United." Have you personally listened to this? I think it was an awesome tribute.

Tobi:
Yes we had. We are really proud that so many bands took part in this project. We cannot thank them enough. Once there is a tribute album to a band I think this is some kind of statement. That is just  awesome

Red Light Grind:
Being 15 years old you guys have had the same line-up and hard task for many bands. How have you 3 been able to stay together.

Tobi:
Actually I have no idea. It is hard work. But it seems to work out.

Red Light Grind:
Do egos/personalities ever get in the way?

Tobi:
Sure. You mature together and learn from each other. Sometimes it is a pain in the keister, but it is worth it.

Red Light Grind:
Your last full length was a little different from the previous 2, i still loved it. What brought on the style change? Will future songs(if there are any) be in the vein of Egoleech?

Tobi:
Well, we were fed up with the old bullshit. We had to move on. And so have we moved on in the last 8 years. There is a lot of material from different years and we will arrange them to some album. Maybe there will also be totally new stuff. But I have no idea yet.

Red Light Grind:
Some credit you guys for being pioneers in the pornogrind genre, how do you feel about that?

Tobi:
Actually GUT were the big porn pioneers I would say. We learned a lot from them and I still enjoy seeing them live once in a while. But we are also proud that we decided to go that way long before all the other bands did so.

Red Light Grind:
What do you think about the goregrind/pornogrind scene now compared to when you first began?

Tobi:
Totally different (from the basic idea and motivation) though still the same (musicwise) I think every period has its music. Like punk and thrash metal and death metal and so on. But if a new band rises up playing some kind of music that has been around 15 years it is quite boring. You have to be innovative in some way to be interesting. Otherwise it is like watching the same movie again and again.

Red Light Grind:
Who is your favorite porn star?

Tobi:
To be honest -  I have no idea about their names actually.

Red Light Grind:
Have you ever done the "Cock and Ball Torture" to any of your sexual partners?

Tobi:
Nope.

Red Light Grind:
Best place to food and a nice beer in Germany if I ever make it over there?

Tobi:
South Germany, find some Biergarten and get a Brezn with Obazder and a Mass Bier. Hands down.

Red Light Grind:
Well I'd like to thank you for this interview!
I'm about out of stupid questions so any last words or dirty comments to our readers!?

Tobi:
Fuck off, but keep visiting our live shows you bastards! =)
